The Junior Advanced Course is a four- year program of weekly group lessons designed for graduates of the Junior Music Course (Year 4) and /or the Young Musician Course (Year 3). Students learn and play creative interpretations of music repertoire as well as composing of their own. In addition to the group lessons, students may also take part in individual lessons to improve their playing skills. These individual lessons allow for teachers to develop their individual creative abilities.

Description

The Junior Advanced Course is a four- year program of weekly group lessons designed for graduates of the Junior Music Course (Year 4) and /or the Young Musician Course (Year 3). Students learn and play creative interpretations of music repertoire as well as composing of their own. In addition to the group lessons, students may also take part in individual lessons to improve their playing skills. These individual lessons allow for teachers to develop their individual creative abilities.

The Junior Advanced Course is a four- year program of weekly group lesson designed for graduates of the Junior Music Course (Year 4) and /or Young Musician Course (Year 3) to encourage the personal creative abilities. They learn and play creative interpretations of music repertoire as well as compose their own. In addition to the group lesson, the student may also take part in individual lessons to improve their playing skills permitting the teacher to develop their individual creative abilities.

Pre-requisite: Year 1 :Completion of Junior Music Course Year 4 (JMC4)
or Young Musician Course Year 3 (YMC3)

Year 2: Completion of JAC1
Year 3: Completion of JAC 2
Year 4: Completion of JAC3

Lesson Format: Group Lessons, 60 minutes weekly (37 lessons) + 1 Year-End Concert

Max Class Size: 10

Course Content: Skills developed are Keyboard Harmony, Solfege Singing, Ensemble Playing, Accompaniment and Arranging, Improvisation, Composition, Ear Training, Music Reading and Writing. They are taught in relation to the performance, interllectual and creative abilities of a 8 to 10 year old student.

Achievement Level: Year 1 – Between Yamaha Grade 9 to Grade 8
Year 2 – complete Yamaha Grade 8 Exam
Year 3 – Between Yamaha Grade 8 to Grade 7
Year 4 – complete Yamaha Grade 7 Exam

Parent Attendance: Not mandatory (at the teacher’s discretion)
Advance to: Senior Advanced Course 1 after completion of JAC4

  • Group Lessons: keyboard harmony, solfege singing; ensemble playing; accompaniment and arranging; improvisation; composition; ear training; music reading and writing.
