Extension Course: (JMC3, JMC4)
Graduates of the Primary Course advance to the two-year Junior Extension Course. In this course, the musicianship skills acquired in the Primary Course are now refined in further detail, with increased emphasis placed on keyboard performance, harmony, sight singing, sight playing, ensemble performance, arranging and creativity.
Lesson Format: Group Lessons, 60 minutes weekly (37 lessons) + 1 Year-End Concert
Maximum Class Size: 14
Achievement Level: Year 2: complete Fundamental Skill Survey (FSS)
Year 3: complete Yamaha Grade 10 Exam
Year 4: complete Yamaha Grade 9 Exam
Parent Attendance: Required for Year 1 and Year 2
Recommended for Year 3 and Year 4
Advance to: Junior Advanced Course (JAC 1) at the end of Year 4
Skills Developed:
Keyboard performance, note and rhythm reading, ensemble playing, solfege singing, accompaniment and arranging, ear training, composition, music writing and creativity. These skills are taught in relation to the greater motor skills and reading ability of a 7 or 8 year old student.
